Walgreen's Deals

Okay. I whine on Katie's blog about no CVS in Utah quite frequently. She gets the most amazing deals and spends very little money. I'm jealous!! lol. I'm apparently really in to getting deals these days and trying to get more organized. Well, I heard about a deal on Walgreen's diapers last week. They were on sale for 5.99/package (jumbo sized), and they had a manufacturer's coupon for $2.50 off each package as well as a store coupon for $2 off each package, PLUS, when you bought 3, they gave you $5 in register rewards toward your next purchase. So some gals I know spent around $5 for 3 packages of dipes and then got the $5 back on their purchase. FREE DIAPERS??? Awesome. Well, by the time I'd heard about it, there were no jumbo sized packages to be found at any Walgreen's in this county (baby capital, USA). I went to two and got rain checks for the sale price (maximum of 4 packages each) and found out they were to get deliveries yesterday, so I went back this morning.

So, I ended up with 8 bags of dipes: 1 newborn, 3 size 1's, and 4 size 2's. Now I realize I have told y'all I'm doing cloth, and I am, but there are times when sposies come in handy, so I wanted to get some for those emergencies, church, or y'know when you're 35 weeks' pregnant and your dryer starts acting weird, you still will have dipes when the baby gets here whether or not you buy a new dryer.

Anyway. At the first Walgreen's, They wouldn't let me use the $2 coupon on top of the other one (but the guy was being a dork, so I blame him). BUT I got 4 packages of dipes, spent 15.51, and got back a $5 register reward. Not bad, considering at their regular price, that would've been over $32. At the second Walgreen's, they didn't even bat an eye, just rang them up with both coupons. I spent 9.14 and got back a $5 register reward.

So, I spent a total of $24.65 and got back $10 for a purchase that normally would cost over $64. So I saved over $50 for these emergency dipes. Rock on. And we'll use the register rewards for stuff like milk or something, other stuff on sale this coming week. We'll see. I'm just happy. lol

Deals at CVS? Where? Not around where I am. I can't even figure out how to cash in on their card "reward" system.

that was a lot of math for me to do this morning. I'm glad you were able to get a great deal on diapers.

How do you go about cleaning dirty cloth diapers?

Trina, try ... http://www.moneysavingmom.com/money_saving_mom/2008/03/qa-making-cvs-w.html
that link explains some stuff.

Ehu, you put them in the washer. When they are newborns and only on formula or breast milk, the poop isn't as big of a deal. It washes out. As they change to solids, you do have to dump the poop in the toilet before washing. Rinse on cold with Oxyclean, wash on hot with detergent and maybe more Oxyclean, rinse one or two times more, then dry in the dryer. NO fabric softener.

Yay! I'm so happy that I've gotten people excited about saving money. There really are some great deals to be had, you just have to go out an look. :)

So you have to wash these things like 3-4 times?? Oooh, that's a lot. Does the poop ever seap out of the diaper?

Not entirely through the whole wash, but you do have to get all the detergent/cleanser out of them (the reason for the extra rinse) or they can burn your baby's butt. As far as leaks go, it can depend on the diaper and the child, but sposies leak and cause dipey rash, too. I'm not sure what's going to happen since I haven't used clothies ever and the baby isn't here yet.

Woohoo for awesome diaper deals!

I'm headed out on Monday to Walgreen's, Walmart, and Office Depot to get back to school deals. I've already got 20+ spiral notebooks at 5c each (WM) and folders that always sell out early, but since I bought yesterday I was able to get PINK. The sale doesn't official start until tomorrow, so they didn't have 22c crayons or glue sticks yet (I'll be buying about a dozen boxes of crayons). At Walgreen's, it's pencils, dividers, crayola markers for 99c, and misc. OD has erasers, protractors, and rulers for 1c each. CVS didn't have anything good this week. I'll keep this up for the next 6 weeks as they all battle to lead me into their store :-). Sadly, the construction paper (which never goes on REAL sale anywhere here) will cost at least as much as ALL OF THE OTHER SUPPLIES. And might be sold out, you have to hit it just right.

And that WAS a lot of math. Holy canoli.

Okay, back to work. Had to share though, cuz I love school supplies like you love diapers :-D.

Oh, I was super ticked. Went to Walmart yesterday and there were no 5 cent notebooks to be found! I usually buy 20+ of them and use them for work and random kids who come to my house to color, and hubby uses them for tracking workouts ... Maybe I'll see if he can go next week and check. Or maybe DisGrace will ...

I bought mine the day I got the flyer in the mail, which was Friday, 2 days before the sale started. They didn't even have the crayons out yet (went back first thing Monday morning for them and they were just putting them out). Anyway, by Monday morning early (day after the sale started), they were all gone at ours too. A friend stocks there and she said they are putting stuff out every night and it's just gone - our BTS aisle looked bare. I'm more than half done with my list now though between WM and Walgreen's this week. Waiting for the Expo markers to go on sale and the rest is stuff that probably won't go on sale. I also stocked my personal stash of Crayola markers, which made me so happy :-)

We did get some markers and colored pencils and crayons the other day. I just love those notebooks though -- not the best quality paper, but who cares when you're just filling it up with job numbers and other crap, then throwing it out when you don't need it anymore? lol

Seriously going to have to try and convince someone to go to WM first thing in the a.m. and get a bunch of notebooks ... lol

Yeah, I already used 4 of them for an appointment I had to drag all of the monkeys to on Tuesday. Church would have gone smoother if I'd remembered to grab them before we left.
