From work today

Ponder for 2007:

Number 10: Life is sexually transmitted.
Number 9: Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
Number 8: Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. If you see him without an erection, make him a sandwich.
Number 7: Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.
Number 6: Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.
Number 5: Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Number 4: All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
Number 3: Why does a slight tax increase cost you $200.00 and a substantial tax cut saves you 30?
Number 2: In the 60s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.
AND THE NUMBER 1: THOUGHT FOR 2007: We know exactly where one cow with Mad-cow-disease is located among the millions and millions of cows in America but we haven't got a clue as to where thousands of illegal immigrants and terrorists are located. Maybe we should put the Department of Agriculture in charge of immigration.

School

Kiddo (mUnchkin) starts back to school Tuesday. yesterday, we got to go meet her teacher. She's a gal with whom I went to high school, so it was fun catching up with her a bit. We were pretty good friends and she remembered me in a good way, which is sort of suprising considering I kind of lost my mind during my senior year. And everyone thought I was pregnant at graduation but I wasn't. In fact, I was still a virgin. (didn't get into any of that with her, but the other folks we hung out with spread that rumor, so I was sort of shocked she was happy to see me).

Anyway. Hubby is doing better with meds and his new shift. He likes working fewer hours and having more time at home. I like the fact that he's happier and more normal. So that's awesome.

Looking forward to back to school next week so I can really get back in the groove of my new split shifts.

And then maybe I'll have more time to play WoW ... *snicker*

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

I woke up with a migraine. It's been coming on for a week. Hubby very lovingly insisted I go to the Instacare for a shot and took me there. It's better now.

pottery-based quiz

1) Harry begins Hogwarts and sorted into a house. Which house do you think you would be sorted in?
Gryffindor = Brave
Ravenclaw = Smart
Hufflepuff = Loyal/hardworking
Slytherin = Sly, looking for the easy way

Hufflepuff. I'm too chicken to sign up for what Gryffindors deal with and, even if I'm smart, I'm too lazy for Ravenclaw's smartness factor. Obviously, I don't want to be in Slytherin.

2) The Mirror of Erised, instead of showing a reflection, shows what the subject wants more than anything. What would the Mirror show you?

A stack of cash and a carefree life ... A big house (not bigger than needed, just big), no debt, the right mixure of rain and sun for me and hubby to both be happy, and a couple more children!

3) In The Chamber of Secrets, Harry’s new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is a celebrity with an overdeveloped case of ego. Which current celebrity do you think is overblown?

Tom Cruise. Paris Hilton. Britney Spears. Lindsay Lohan -- major disappointment with her ... gah.

4) Harry calls Fawkes (Dumbledore’s phoenix) to him by exhibiting loyalty. What non-family member would be able to call your phoenix?

CC. Jess/Nate. Jennifer.

5) In The Prisoner of Azkaban we first see a Boggart, which takes the form of whatever the person fears. What would your boggart turn into?

I'm Molly Weasley. Everyone DEAD.

Or a big pile of bills and 0 balance in the checkbook.

6) Harry is able to fight off dementors by using a patronus charm which calls upon a very happy memory. What would your happy moment be?

My wedding day to my sweet husband.

7) In The Goblet Of Fire Fred and George try to put their names in the goblet even though they are not old enough. What “mature” activity did you try too early?

Marriage, clearly. The first time.

8)In The Order of the Phoenix Harry discusses what he wants to be when he gets out of school. What did you want to be when you were 15?

A teacher.

9) The kids take their defense against the dark arts in a room of requirement where the room becomes whatever you need. What would your personal room of requirement be–when would it appear?

A sound-proof room with Time-Turners and computers and a bed! I could work in peace, get in a nap, and not miss anything!

10) In the Half-Blood Prince we are exposed to Felix Felicitas, a potion that will make you have a wonderful wonderful day. Tell us about a day that you would like to live over again–a wonderful day.

I don't know that I'd want to live my wedding day over again, but I loved the honeymoon -- just being able to kick back, spend time with my sweetie, and not have to work ... that or the days right after kidlet came home from the hospital, before I left my ex, while he was gone to work. those were good times. ORRRR, after my heart surgery when kidlet and hubby were both here taking care of me, quiet house, etc.

11) In the Deathly Hallows, Hermione blanks her parents' memory of her existence. Is this something you would do to protect those you loved?

Well, yes. It would be hard. But yes. I wished I could have done that back when I left my ex (although, it would have been easier to blank HIS memory ...)

12) We find that Dumbledore entrusted Snape to kill him. Do you have anyone that you would trust enough to kill you if you asked them to?

Hubby and I have had the pull the plug discussion, but that's about it.

13) Many beloved characters do not make it to the end of the book. What fictional characters' deaths affected you (besides the ones in Harry Potter)?

Oh geeze ... I don't like this question. When characters die, there is usually not a happy ending, and I end up hating the book. Richard Paul Evans, I think that's his name (christmas box?), his books are like that. Love the book until a character dies. I quit reading them.

Well ... Things could be worse.

Just so you all know, this last week wasn't the best. Nor was it the worse week I've ever had, to that's all right.

Hubby is supposed to go back to work tonight on his new schedule. Hopefully he sticks it out and doesn't go crazy because we are broker than broke. And right now, we have too many bills for either of us to cover alone. So ... hoping he's settled into his meds better than he was last week. Which is a story I'm not going to repeat.

Saturday night, our date night involved World of Warcraft (WoW). I don't usually just sit around and watch him play, but he'd asked me to consider creating my own character and playing for a while to see what is so cool about it. I'm not 100% sure why he loves it so much (although I see his point of creating his own sci-fi/fantasy story every time he logs in), but about the 30th or 40th creature I zapped and thought, "I have the skills to kill this sucker quickly," I realized I was SUCKED IN. He is so happy I'm playing, and giddy to tell all his friends and brother, "I can't join the group right now. My WIFE is playing." Hilarious.

And then yesterday, after I finally woke up (I haven't been sleeping well), kiddo and I talked about the game and I told her I played it and she wanted to see my character. So I showed her, and she asked me to play. So I played for a bit and she was like, "MOM! You are SO GOOD!" Which is also hilarious to me.

I am not a gamer. I do not play videogames. I do not like videogames. Except, I kinda liked bringing the smackdown on the undead ... and the creepy kitties ... and the wyrms trying to eat me ...

Blind Date

This would be my cuzzin and his parents. Cuzzin is on the left (duh). He is 31. Sweet guy, works hard, travels a bit with his job ... And he wants to get married and have kids. Wild, huh?

The catch? He thinks white girls are boring. So he wants someone with some flava. Latina, black, whatever, just not boring. I figure I have not boring white friends, but don't know any single women of other flavors. But whatever.

He's also only semi-active in the church. He remodels LDS churches for a living and when Sunday comes around, he doesn't want to go in one. It's an excuse, to be sure, and he readily admits such. And he says he's still a virgin (NO, I DIDN'T ASK THAT).

So yeah. I don't know why I'm posting this. It just struck me as amusing that my cousin said, "I think we white people are boring." I had to remind him we aren't exactly white. And I have some girlfriends who are white and definitely not boring ... ahem.

It'd be funny to start a dating service for good guys who are stuck in ruts and too old for singles wards. Y'all could rate them with stars for personality, looks, job potential, etc.

I wish I had a picture of my BIL -- 34 (i think), working full time now, going to start grad school, and since he's hubby's bro obviously he's Tongan and relatively cute (although my husband is sooooooooo much hawter; I'm not biased or anything).
