I'M NOT YOUR MAID!!!!

How many times have I wanted to yell that at my child? I've never done it.

So this morning, we're cleaning her room so the new bunk bed can be delivered, and I told her she needed to vacuum. Guess who yelled the above statement? That's right. NOT me.

After taking a time out for myself so I didn't yell back, I explained to her that I'm the one who does her laundry and scrubs her toilet (to which she said, EWWW!). She has chores to do, and cleaning her room is on that list.

Then I told her it was a good thing her dad hadn't heard her sass me like that. She agreed.

I did eventually yell though. Something about her continuing to play among the old bed parts (which isn't safe, but she wouldn't listen). Fine. Drop a bed frame on yourself. I won't feel sorry for you.

Anyway. The "I'm not your maid" statement came from a TV show in which a child actually was having to be the maid for his mom and twin brother. They both had the flu; he was doing all the cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. I don't think cleaning your own room with the help of your mother qualifies you as a maid. Grrrrr.

And off I go to work. Until my next interruption, which hopefully will either be taking her to school (yay!) or the delivery guys (yay!).

*Edit*

I just realized it's been forever since I've done a Friday Fave Five. The above is sort of the opposite of that.

So ...

1. I am grateful for my sweet husband -- who, after waking me up the other night while playing WoW with his brother on line, turned off his computer and took me back to bed and held me while I fell back asleep, and he fell asleep, too. He also went to therapy this week and is taking the supplements we all talked about, including some herbal formulas for mood stabilization. And he agreed to try a prescription medication if the herbals don't work. (if you don't know my husband and the culture and his parents' involvement, you don't know how much progress this is). I also went shopping for clothes the other day and didn't tell him first (we usually talk things over before we spend more than a couple dollars on ourselves), and he said, "Go buy more clothes! You need a swimsuit that you like." when I told him how much plus-size suits run, he said it was worth it if I liked it and felt good in it. What a guy.

2. I am grateful for my kidlet -- even on days like today.

3. I am grateful for the Small Fry -- and the fact that we can call her and send her letters again.

4. I am grateful Small Fry's mother -- and whatever has possessed her of late to try and let us have a relationship with Small Fry. She and my husband are both bipolar and things are so much better now that they've agreed to not talk to each other. Honestly, I have no idea how they got along long enough to make a baby in the first place. Since it's just me dealing with her, things are so good. So I'm grateful for her for trying to be friendly with me, even though some of her "Good morning!" texts can be interesting. (like yesterday. "Good morning, hope you woke up on the wrong side of the coffin!").

5. I am grateful for my friends and family and co-workers. They've kept me sane this past week while dealing with everything that's been going on.

*sob* I feel much less grumpy now.

Saturday ... happy ... THREE??

So, I decided at the beginning of the week that my five favorite web funnies sent to me or posted to me or whatever would be my five. But I only got 3 things this week at all. Good thing they were alllll postworthy!

1. Google maps. Line 21 on this version.

2. Letter from the police:

Dear Civilian,

Your 5-year-old kid getting pushed down by another 5-year-old kid is NOT a
police matter; talk to the other kid's parents, not the police.

If your kid won't do his homework or do his chores, 911 is not the answer.
Maybe you should try something called parenting!

If a cop causes a car accident we usually get a ticket, and sometimes we
get suspended. When is the last time you got 3 days off (without pay) for
rear-ending a guy at Wal-Mart?

We know you've had more than two beers. When I've had two beers, I don't
hit six parked cars, drive my car through the front doors of a Toys-R-Us,
pee my pants or pass out at a traffic light.

When you see an emergency vehicle behind you with its lights and sirens on,
pull to the RIGHT, and stop. We are usually required to pass cars on the left.

When you're driving in the fast lane and you see a cop behind you, don't go
5 MPH under the speed limit. We are not impressed by how safe of a driver
you can be, we're trying to go help someone (or catch that guy in the SUV that
just cut you off). Safely move over and let us pass please.

If we park our cruiser across the road with lights flashing, don't ask if
the road is closed or if there is an accident, just take an alternate route
and DON'T DRIVE AROUND US!

If you get a warning instead of a ticket from a motorcycle cop, go buy a
lottery ticket because you've already beaten the odds.

When you see an officer conducting a traffic stop or with a suspect in
handcuffs, it is generally not a good idea to approach him and ask for
directions. If you do, don't expect the officer to be nice when he tells you
to get lost, and don't expect the officer to take the time to explain.

Here's how to get out of a ticket: Don't break the law.

If you drive a piece of crap, that is why you're getting pulled over.

In one week I pulled over 10 cars for minor traffic violations. 5 out of 10
had no vehicle insurance. 3 out of 10 had suspended driver's licenses. 2
out of 10 had warrants. 1 out of 10 had felony warrants. 1 was a known sex
offender with his 12 year old niece in the car without her mother's
knowledge.

If you've just been pulled over doing 70 in a 35, do not greet the officer
with, "What seems to be the problem, officer?"

We get lunch and coffee breaks too.

When you're the victim of a burglary, take the time you spend waiting for
the officer to find the model number and the serial number of the stuff that
was taken.

Some cops are just jerks, but take heart in the fact that other cops don't
like them either.

If it's night time and you're driving a vehicle with tinted windows and I
pull you over, it's not because of your skin color. I usually can't tell if
the vehicle even has a driver until the window is rolled down.

Every time you hear on the news about people running away from a crazed
gunman, someone's son or daughter in a police uniform is running TOWARD that
crazed gunman.

Yes, it's true; cops usually don't give other cops tickets. Think of it as
an employee discount, perk or benefit. Other cops are family and you
wouldn't give your brother a ticket if you were a cop either.

If your local police agency has a helicopter, everyone knows it's loud and
annoying, but did you know it can cover the same area as 20 patrol officers
and safely chase criminals that are driving 90 MPH through city streets.
Many times the guy has no idea it's there and slows down.

Police work is.... Writing reports.

If you rob a gas station you're only going to get about $100, but I get to
see a K9 dog use you as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

In one year of patrol work in a large city, only about ten minutes would be
cool enough to be on the television show "Cops".

Every traffic stop could end in gunfire, but we have to be polite and
professional until that time .

I've taken about the same amount of men and women to jail for domestic
violence, so NO, it's not always the man.

If the light was yellow, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Cops know you pay taxes and that your taxes pay cops' salaries.

Cops also pay taxes, which also pay cops' salaries so, hey; this traffic
stop is on me. Now sign here; press hard. There are several copies.

Police Officers... Our job is to protect your [butt], not kiss it!

Thank You,
The Police

3. The curtain rods.

She spent the first day packing her belongings into boxes, crates and suitcases.

On the second day, she had the movers come and collect her things.

On the third day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining room table by candle-light, put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar, and a bottle of spring-water.

When she had finished, she went into each and every room and deposited a few half-eaten shrimp shells dipped in caviar into the hollow of the curtain rods.

She then cleaned up the kitchen and left. When the husband returned with his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days.

Then slowly, the house began to smell.

They tried everything; cleaning, mopping and airing the place out.

Vents were checked for dead rodents and carpets were steam cleaned.

Air fresheners were hung everywhere. Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which they had to move out for a few days and in the end they even paid to replace the expensive wool carpeting. Nothing worked.

People stopped coming over to visit. Repairmen refused to work in the house. The maid quit.

Finally, they could not take the stench any longer and decided to move.

A month later, even though they had cut their price in half, they could not find a buyer for their stinky house.

Word got out and eventually even the local realtors refused to return their calls.

Finally, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place.

The ex-wife called the man and asked how things were going.

He told her the saga of the rotting house. She listened politely and said that she missed her old home terribly and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for getting the house back.

Knowing his ex-wife had no idea how bad the smell was, he agreed on a price that was about 1/10th of what the house had been worth, but only if she were to sign the papers that very day.

She agreed and within the hour his lawyers delivered the paperwork.

A week later the man and his girlfriend stood smiling as they watched the moving company pack everything to take to their new home.........

And to spite the ex-wife, they even took the the curtain rods!!!!!!

Now that I've made you all pee your pants, you can thank CC and my co-workers for the need for clean underwear.

Friday Fave Five!!! (wait ... it's saturday ... my bad)

Okay. We've had a really rough week. Hubby is doing a lot better now than he was earlier in the week. Thank heaven.

So ... my Friday Fave Five this week ... things that helped me cope and feel better through hubby's crash and other problems this week. He's still my fave, I still love him, all that stuff. We're good.

1. My credit union. They're helping refi the house, then we'll sell it. That'll give us time to get it cleaned up and paint the garage door and touch up the paint throughout the house. Then we have two months of no mortgage payments, so hopefully we can sell it in that time.

2. My doctor. He isn't just taking the first answer (UTI) to be the cause of all my illness/trouble. He is sending me for an ultrasound of my abdomen and pelvis next week and took a whole bunch of blood yesterday. Which is okay I guess. I'm not pregnant, just nauseated constantly, which is being made worse by the antibiotics. Fun times. Hopefully this, too, passes and nothing else is wrong with me and hopefully nothing else is going on that will prevent me from getting pregnant soon.

3. Friends like CC and Kip. Playing last night (Friday) helped out a ton.

4. Kidlet. She's been so great and taking such good care of mommy. I had a massage Wednesday which hurt me for two days -- couldn't even drive. i'm doing better now and the muscles loosened up a TON, but when I was hurting so bad, she just patted me on the shoulders and snuggled up with me where she wouldn't hurt me and took care of me. Such a great kid.

5. My boss being understanding about me being sick. Although I'm not sure she's going to continue to let me slack, so hopefully we can sell the house in early May so I can move to part time. Oy.

So ... yeah. kip loves castles, so cc and i picked her up last night, got a bite at Carl's, and drove up to Cedar Hills to show her the castle house. It's still there, just like I remembered. cc says that's a popular thing to do now (castle elements in houses), but i just remember mocking the family who built it. poor family. and we drove by what used to be a nauseatingly pink house ... that family also got mocked and they had a hard time selling the house until they found someone who was willing to re-stucco the thing and re-do all the landscaping.

now i'm plotting munchkin's birthday party, possibly considering a trip to Farmland at Thanksgiving Point with animals and stuff ... or just doing the pool thing again. we shall see.

Thursday night, I sang a solo in a production of Women at the Well at church. It was fun. I like singing, but I usually insist on singing in a group -- this time, things were just so crazy, I didn't have time to get to the choir practices, so the sister in charge of all of the music brought me a solo. After the thing was over Thursday, she told me I need my own CD. mwahahahaha. Anyway, turns out the sisters in the choir blended really well and didn't really need me. I have this voice ... it just sort of is THERE. It is BIG, and I wouldn't have been able to blend as well with them. So it turned out for the better that I didn't do the choir. lol.

well. now i'm nauseated more and having cramps. woo. i'm gonna go cuddle munchkin, who went to a sleepover last night but didn't sleep over (she's not allowed to sleep over). The mom of her friend said she understood and was just glad i'd let her go over at all. lol.

Friday Fave Five!!!

Five favorite relationship quotes this week! Some funny, some awwww (gack), but all quite true.

1. We are all a little weird and life is a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love. -- Author unknown

2. We are all just looking for our own weirdo. -- Kevin and Janae

3. Couples getting together proves there is a God today who works miracles because we are all so retarded, it's a wonder any of us hook up and make it work. -- CC

4. There is nothing more admirable than when two people who see eye to eye keep house as man and wife, confounding their enemies and delighting their friends. -- Homer, Odyssey

5. The moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love.

That being said, marriage is HARD. But I still love my honey.

TGIF

What a crappy week.

This is the new blog and I'm not going to really talk about the bad week or the reason for the move. Instead, here are this week's Fave Five, a night early: MY PEOPLE. (and yes, there are SIX)

1. My husband.

2. My sister Graceful.

3. CC.

4. Munchkin.

5. My mom.

6. The Savior.

The Savior is not really the last one in importance. I just ... Man, I'm grateful for the Atonement.

My husband is such a sweet man. I need to remember that and realize I'm not perfect either. And he loves me even on bad weeks, so I guess we're okay.

Graceful helps me chill out a lot -- we're great friends. Glad she's my sis.

CC is an amazingly talented artist and a wonderful friend. So excited to see her Friday night!

Munchkin is my on-line name for my kiddo. She's 7-1/2. She makes me giggle. This was our conversation the other afternoon.
"Mom, can I shut your office door?"
"No." *crestfallen look* "Well, if you shut it you'll get into mischief." *giggle* "Y'know, that's actually what's on your birth certificate. Mischief Munchkin."
"LIAR LIAR!" as she runs squealing and giggling away.

My mom ... she's the best! I know life is rough all around for a lot of her kids right now, but she took the time to talk with me today while she was at work and I was a mess ... and she stayed with me for a month after my heart surgery just to make sure I was okay -- *and* tried to keep my dad out of my hair (love him, but he drives me batty in enclosed spaces). What's better than that?
