Headaches

So, I had 3 migraines last week, probably triggered by the pregnancy hormones. I had Auntie Voodoo do a treatment on Saturday night and was headache free after a couple of hours. Until today.

This morning, it started as a dull ache in the back of my skull and escalated over several hours, even having another treatment. I ended up sleeping it off for a couple of hours after I cried and made hubby and kidlet slave over me (lol). Got up feeling 100% better.

Then I had some mint chocolate chip ice cream. Headache returned within 5 minutes just as bad as it was before I slept.

I realized today's headache wasn't preceded by any visual auras or disturbance, whereas my usual migraines are. I was eating chocolate just before it started, too, and when I had a bit more later (been craving it since last night), the headache intensified.

I think I'm sensitive to chocolate now -- at least while pregnant. I'm not going to have chocolate again for a good long while, if ever. I'm in too much pain. Owell, it'll help me not get fatter during the pregnancy, right?

Relationship Meme

I know I've done this but couldn't find it and Bryner wanted me to do it ... so ...

How long have you been together?

Since our first date, it's been almost 22 months.

How long did you date?

Before we got engaged, not quite two months. We were together for not quite 5 months before we got married.

How old is he?

30

Who eats more?

Right now, I do. He's in a competition to lose some weight, and I'm pregnant.

Who said "I love you" first?

He did. We'd been out dancing and we were snuggling on the couch (I'd started my period), and he got this goofy look on his face. I kept asking him "What??" and he finally said, "I just love you." lol It freaked me out.

Who is taller?

He is. By a lot.

Who sings better?

Me.

Who is smarter?

We both have our good points.

Who does the laundry?

Mostly me, sometimes he helps.

Who does the dishes?

He helps when I make him. He's been doing it a lot lately.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?

We both sleep in the middle. He works graveyards, I work splits, so by the time he's coming to bed, I'm getting up. When we do share the bed though, I'm on the right.

Who mows the lawn?

HA! we don't have to, someone comes and does it for us -- ditto.

Who cooks dinner?

Usually me, but since I got pregnant, that's a very bad time of day for me, so he took over.

Who is more stubborn?

We both have our bad points.

Who kissed who first?

He kissed me first and then I jumped off the couch and turned on lights. It hit me very quickly, very powerfully, the best first kiss I've ever had, and I knew if we kept kissing, it would lead somewhere I wasn't ready. He thought I hated kissing him. hahahahah

Who asked who out?

He definitely asked me out -- after my BIL and sister hooked us up for our first date, he texted me a few days later to ask me for our second.

Who proposed?

He did, 15 days after we met.

Who is more sensitive?

If he's not medicated, it's me.

Who has more friends?

I think we're even.

Who has more siblings?

Tied, both of us were born into families with 6 kids. One of his brothers passed away as a baby though, so I have more living sibs.

Who wears the pants in the relationship?

We both have our strong points.

UPDATE

All is well. Baby's heart is beating, it is wiggling like mad, and when I told the doctor I could feel it, he said it was entirely possible even if it's early. I cried as soon as we saw the heartbeat. I feel a lot better, even though I'm still spotty and crampy a bit ... I decided as long as I can feel Chuck wiggling (my co-workers call it that), I'm not going to worry about it. Even if I'm spotting.
WHAT is the POINT of a MIDWIFE? (RANT)

My spotting was still going yesterday, so I called the midwife's office yesterday. Twice. Left messages both times. I never did hear from them. The spotting slowed down a lot, looks like the last day of my period this morning, but I have had a bit of cramping. I called again this morning and told the receptionist what was going on and that they hadn't called me back yesterday. She got the nurses on the phone. The nurses said they never got my messages (BS) yesterday and then informed me that my MIDWIFE is no longer delivering BABIES and told me to go to the ER and then come in next week and see the OB. I'm just a bit pissed off. Because the OB she works with wouldn't discuss whether or not intercourse was safe for me (he got embarrassed when I brought it up!!!), I'm changing doctor's offices. I called an OB/GYN I'd seen about 10 or 11 years ago for an early miscarriage and he and his partners have delivered several of my nieces and nephews. I was crying of course, because this is REALLY stressful and when you're pregnant you want to cry all the time anyway. They've worked me in for an ultrasound this afternoon. I'll be changing my care to their office. I just really liked my midwife and am frustrated and upset that at my first visit with her, she told me she would deliver my baby, and now this. That wasn't that long ago, y'know?

I'll post later about the ultrasound.

President Hinckley

I haven't said much about his passing for various reasons. One of them is my emotions are so hard to control right now with the pregnancy -- I cried the other day for a long time and hubby just held me. He was really worried about me, but didn't say anything until the next day when my mood was much better. Thank heaven for the Lamictal though -- his mood is much more stable and he's able to handle my crap better. lol.

I loved President Hinckley as our prophet and will miss his dry humor from the pulpit. But I am so glad he is back with his beloved wife again. He seemed so lonely and missed her so much. It's good for him and his loved ones on the other side of the veil.

And knowing that the Savior is really the head of our church and that He will not lead us astray helps me get through. I know the next prophet will be just as awesome in his own way as President Hinckley was.

New job?

My company posted an opening for a proofer on my team. I applied since I've been doing this part time, trained three years ago, but regularly for a year or more. The money is still pretty good and I've been getting the backlog of accounts taken care of this week. I really do want the job; hopefully my pregnancy and sickness the last month won't be counted against me. It's actually easier for me to proof right now -- even when I feel like puking.

More spotting.

Yep. Not good. It's slowed down, but is still stressing me out.

My migraine is back to some extent, although I'm taking some homeopathics and drinking more water and electrolytes, which are all supposed to help. The Tylenol helps some (might go take some), but I am not comfortable taking much Excedrin (tension headache -- just tylenol and caffeine, no aspirin, but it's a LOT of caffeine). I'm not supposed to get shots. Wondering though if the caffeine is contributing to the spotting.

I'm going to have to call Auntie Voodoo again for another craniosacral myofascial release because she did one Saturday night and I had a decent day yesterday without a headache (first time in a week). She already said she'd do another one tomorrow though ... maybe I'll just wait.

Something Funny

I won't mind if this guy or the guy he appoints Secretary of Lookin' Good win the presidency. I think they'd both to a great job. This is really funny; not really political at all. Just watch it, you know you want to.

And because I know MOST of you want to see how huge I'm getting, here's a picture from this morning -- I'm only 11-1/2 weeks' pregnant and haven't gained much if any weight. This baby is going to be ginormous.

I know, this is when most women STOP throwing up.

I just started.

My WAY fun Friday night

First, I couldn't fall asleep until around 11:40. Dunno why. I'd had a Wendy's frosty attack earlier and had eaten dinner there (everything else sounded vomitous), then finished working by 11. Just ... couldn't sleep.

Later on, some BUTT was yelling under kiddo's room and woke her up, then TWO butts got in their cars outside her windows and had engine contests, roaring them, squealing tires, honking horns. Did I mention this happened around 2 a.m.? She settled into bed with me and we both fell asleep. Then around 2:30 the doorbell rang. For the first time in her life, when I told her to stay put and NOT answer the door with me, she stayed put. Went downstairs and saw a police car out our downstairs window, looked out onto the porch, and it was 3 policemen. When I answered the door, I said, wow, there's been a racket tonight. They told me that our nextdoor neighbor had called the police about the noise (but apparently didn't write down plate numbers), so they were looking throughout the building for the BUTTS. Of course, they didn't say BUTTS, they said whoever was responsible. They asked if it was us, if everything was okay at our house, and I said, "No, we're okay. It woke up my 8-yo, and my DH is at work ... " We chatted for a minute, said good night, then locked the door again.

Went back upstairs and Monkey was WIDE AWAKE because she was terrified. We tried to sleep until about 2:45, but couldn't, so I let her put a movie on and got snacks for both of us. I was just dozing off when I heard the police leave (their car was underneath our bedroom window, which lines up with the downstairs window that I'd seen their car outside of earlier). Yeah ... She watched The Incredibles and then wanted to watch it again. NO, I made her go to sleep around 4:30, then kicked her out at 5:30 when she did something that woke me up. Hubby came home at 6:15, and I couldn't fall back asleep until 7:15 ... Then she came in at 7:45 and said she was up, and I said, "that's nice." At 8:15, I finally dragged my butt out of bed and went to make her something to eat, but she was sound asleep. FUN, huh? I bet you wish you were me. ;)

We don't usually have these kinds of things in this complex -- for the most part, the neighbors are courteous and respectful, and if you ask them to tone things down, they do. Part of that is because most of the residents here own their homes (or pay the bank for them). We think the folks responsible are some renters who do get rowdy on occasion but NEVER like this ... Hoping the police figured out who it was and gave them tickets or something.

BTW, it's pretty embarrassing to answer the door with bed head and no makeup and tummy poking out and in your comfiest PJS when three cute police dudes are at your door. hahahahahaha. However, it's much nicer to live in a place where police don't know who you are because they know who your husband is because of his criminal record (like everywhere I lived with my ex). Score another point for my sweet husband. lol

As I told hubby this morning, the only saving grace is that the baby isn't here yet, so I didn't have an awake baby, an awake Kiddo, and an awake ME to get so grumpy. He laughed and said he was glad he's on graveyard shift. Minus a point for my husband. hahahahaa.

I'm s'posed to work 11 hours today on not much sleep. Wish me luck.

BROWNIES

So, I've been craving brownies for the last couple of days, but hubby is in a (slightly less competitive) body competition through his job right now, and he would be very upset if I made brownies (I made cake the other night when we had dinner with DisGrace, and left most of the rest of it there). This morning, on our way to school, Monkey and I went to the store and bought german chocolate brownies mamabear had bought while I was in the hospital 18 months ago ... sooooooooo yummy. We also bought a cheese pizza for my lunch (and pizza lunchables for hers). Got home, put the pizza in the freezer, hid the brownies in the office, and worked for a while before I needed a nap.

Had the *craziest* dreams, then dreamt the cheese pizza had turned into a Mexican pizza and boy was I mad. Then I went to eat a brownie and dreamt that hubby had cleaned the house, including the office, and ate every single brownie in that pan. Then Monkey was asking, "Well, were they open??? but i didn't get one!" I was pissed in my dream, swore at him, slammed the office door ... he bought me more ... and then I made myself wake up. It took a few minutes, but I just started laughing at myself. Told hubby and he laughed too and told me next time I have a craving, just to take care of it before I get homicidal in my dreams. *snort*

SOB FEST

Geeze -- i'm an emotional boob today, cried on DH for a while. he's doing okay, but I've been really stressed because he didn't start his pills today and he NEEDS them. He thought I was mad he was losing weight and I told him no, that I'm glad he wants to get healthier again. *sigh* Got a whole bunch off my chest. Then hung out with Kidlet. She started crying, asked what was wrong ... she's worried she won't get alone time with mommy after the baby comes because I'm always working now and will have to give all the attention to the baby. I told her I would try and be better about making sure I spend more time with her, too, and that she can always tell me when she's feeling lonely. THEN she says, "But I won't want to take time away from the baby!" Sweet kid, she just stresses a lot. Gosh, she might be related to me. I think she's feeling better -- talked about how she's been my buddy for 9 years now, since I started feeling her wiggling inside me, and that I'd be lost without her. She started crying and said, "That's good to hear. You're very close to me." She's very close to me, too.

I know having this baby is the right thing and we will have lots of blessings, not just the baby itself, but our love as a family will grow, and we'll be closer. But when she's so upset, even though she's wanted a sibling since she was TWO, I start doubting a bit. She's been an only child her whole life and the last two years have had huge changes for her -- my heart surgery, getting a daddy and a sister, losing the sister, having a visit with the sister and realizing she doesn't like her so much (she loves her, they just had a hard time over the summer), then daddy having a hard time with his meds ...

I just wonder if I'm doing a good job as her mom since she's so stressed out that I won't love her as much or make time for her when the baby comes. *sob* She's my baby!! How can I NOT love her? I'll even love her when she's a teenager and gives me more gray hair!!! She's a good girl and I know we'll all be okay, but in some ways, this seems harder on her than when she thought I was going to DIE because of my heart: I'll still be here and she's worried I won't love her. At least if I had died, she'd always have known I loved her. *sigh* I have to be more conscientious about where I'm spending my time now -- work when I'm supposed to be working so I can earn the money we need right now, play when I'm supposed to be playing, sleep when I'm supposed to be sleeping, and make sure I'm taking care of her and hubby and the baby.

Politics

Hate them. Hate how people treat each other in "debates." Hate that anyone (online) who disagrees with a group of folks is lambasted up one side and down the other.

One of the candidates sent mail to MY house to my EX, who has never lived here, doesn't even know where I live, and sure as hell didn't help ME buy this place. My ex is a convicted felon and can't even vote anyway. I refuse to vote for them regardless of where they stand on the issues.

Doesn't matter much though -- IF they win the republican nomination, my vote (in UTAH) against them won't really amount to much anyway.

Ahem.

I've been trying to pay some attention to information online from each of the candidates, but hi, how many elected presidents have kept many (or any) of their campaign promises?

At any rate, I do believe our country needs change. Serious change. REAL change. And I don't believe putting the country in the hands of the other one of the two families who have been running it for two decades is the best idea either. *sigh*

I guess what made me want to say SOMETHING to ANYONE about this is that my sister posted something on her blog about how her family is all about Republicans and that we do what we're told, and that we teach that Republicans are good and Democrats will take your children to hell. (she's a Democrat).

I've never been taught that. I've never even HEARD that. Granted, my dad is pretty staunch republican and my brother gets fired up when I talk about anything not in his party lines, but to be lumped in with the rest of the family like that (and hi, my other sister and my mom aren't that way!) ... sets my teeth on edge. Gah.

I believe we need serious healthcare reform. I believe we need a stronger economy. I believe the war in Iraq needs to end. I believe tax breaks for corporations who take jobs away from American citizens and send them overseas should stop. Now. Those jobs where private citizen information (ssn, birthdate, any identity thieving information) should be back on OUR soil where OUR laws are enforceable. Immigration needs reform. That one is a gray area for me more than any other right now because of how my husband's family got here (they're all legal now). But it needs help.

I don't care who you vote for this year, just do some research and get out and VOTE.

I'm done with ranting. Have a fantabulous day.

***************************

Edited to add: My sister called this evening. I left a comment or two (which were not in any way similar to my post here, very calm and supportive of her choices) on her blog and she wanted to make sure the emotional pregnant lady understood where she was coming from AND that she was talking specifically about my brother and my dad and not me. She said she left a caveat in there to exclude some of our family from her blanket statement, but I didn't see it (still don't see that it is very obvious). lol. Good thing she did, 'cuz I was frustrated with her. hahahaha.

How to Make Yourself Sick

Because of my heart condition, I have to take an antibiotic before every dental procedure. I take a LOT -- usually around 600 mg of clindamycin. It makes me extremely sick with an upset stomach because that is a HUGE dose of antibiotics.

My doctor's office called to tell me I have GBS that could be causing a UTI and I need to be on more antibiotics to prevent early labor, and gave me clindamycin 300 mg to take 1 pill three times a day for a week. Usually, one pill is fine and won't make me sick.

But I did my usual thing and popped two pills without thinking about it.

It's fun when you take the mega dose on top of morning sickness ... seriously. I've been so sick all day ... oy. I finally filled my Phenergan and will take it when I go to bed to combat the nausea.

On the same sort of note, hubby has had a zillion bad side effects with his meds for bipolar. We did finally get in to hubby's doctor today and got him a new prescription. Hoping this one works better for him and causes fewer side effects.

It better. It's more money.

And Monkey is getting glasses sometime this week.

Thank HEAVEN for good insurance and flexible spending accounts ...

Cravings. Pregnancy Cravings.

You know those stories about the pickles and ice cream, and the wife sends the hubby out to get it or she's going to kill him? Yeah. Only I can't send DH out to get it right now because his meds for his bipolar are making him dizzy, so we have to go see the doctor next week again for that.

At any rate, I've had the weirdest cravings since I got pregnant, before I even knew. I'm still just barely pregnant (8 weeks, 1 day today), and the baby has taken over my body. I never had them like this with kiddo. Hostess lemon pies one night, sure. But NOTHING like this.

At first, it was mildish. French's fried onions, right out of the can. Ate some in bed one night while watching a movie when DH was at work. He wasn't too happy about the crumbs. Cherry pie filling. Wanted it out of the can, but made a dessert instead. Twice. And I shared them both with DH. And one night I did send hubby out at 11:30 at night for a Whopper because I needed MEAT. (this was before he had the med reactions). He brought home a double with fries and root beer and I ate it in about 30 seconds, handing him the last bite or two. He just stared at me. I ate so much meat that week -- pork roast, beef roast, steak ... I don't usually eat red meat much, so he was shocked. I just kept telling him it's his baby.

Last week sometime, I ate chili and whole wheat pancakes with syrup for breakfast. Chili in a bowl with cheese and fat free sour cream, pancakes on a plate, and never in my mouth at the same time, but I had to have them both.

Hawaiian pizza. Had a couple of pieces the other night at my sister's house because I've been craving pizza and that was the one choice I could actually eat. I had to buy one two days later and ate most of it myself over the next two days (hubby had a few slices) because I NEEDED that pineapple and can't eat pineapple unless it's been cooked more than once (it makes my throat swell shut if it's fresh or just canned, but on pizza, it's fine).

Rice and beans. Ordered a combo plate from the local Mexican place (Beto's) the other night. ALL I ate was the rice and beans. Couldn't stand the rest of it. In fact, I could eat a huge pile of both of these still and may go get some later. Hubby finished off the combo for me the next day since the smell of it in the fridge was making me nauseated.

Today, I HAD to have a PB sandwich. We'd run out of PB a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't want to stir up the new jar (I buy all natural PB from Adam's and it is separated when you get it, so you have to mix it and then refrigerate it). I made hubby do it for me. Made a sandwich with a little raspberry jam and downed it like it was candy or something. Not more than an hour later, I could smell MUSTARD and had to have it. Fried an egg, made a piece of toast, slapped some mayo and mustard on that puppy, folded it up and ate two bites. Gave the rest to hubby as the two bites fixed the craving and the tummy quit grumbling.

At least I've quit eating roasts by myself.

And the most bizzare thing? I haven't gained any weight. Strangely, hubby has. hahahaha ...

Okay, okay. I gained some weight on Clomid, and then later bounced up to 255 on a bad constipation day, but I've floated between 248 and 252 since then, depending on my constipation (which apparently the new prenatal the midwife gave me is helping with a bit ...). I had been floating around 250 from the Clomid, so yeah. Anyway. Some days I don't eat much. Or there was the day I ate a bag of cinnamon bears because that's all I could stand to put in my mouth. But hello, this had better get under control once my nausea goes away ... Hubby would really like it if I could cook at night, too, because he's had to make dinner a lot lately since that's when I'm sickest.
First Prenatal Visit

I saw the midwife yesterday! They gave me a bunch of stuff, samples of prenatals and other things they want me on, and gave me the book What to Expect When You're Expecting, which I almost bought a while back but decided not to. YAY! She also did an ultrasound and recorded it on DVD, so when DH wakes up later and DD is home, they'll get to see the baby, too. There is only one baby (whew) which is measuring right on for my dates, and the heartbeat is 168 bpm. She said everything looked good, but because I'm mildly high risk (I had heart surgery 18 months ago, had gestational diabetes with DD), she wants me to see the OB as well, which I figured would happen. My BP is elevated a bit, so she's having me go back in 10 days to get rechecked and do some blood work. Of course, if you fight with your husband for two days before an appt, your BP will be elevated, but still, better to be cautious ... lol. (side note: we're fine now)

So ... YAY! mostly. I'd had spotting around Christmas time ... Every time we were intimate. I didn't necessarily think it was a miscarriage (pink and brown spotting) but was pretty freaked out. Called the office, and they said no nookie for a week, try again, and then if it happened again to let her know. After the week, we tried again. The first time was okay, but after the second, the spotting was the worst yet. Probably pushed our luck, but hey, my libido is through the roof right now! At any rate, I did talk to the midwife about it and she said to wait a couple more weeks before we try again because of the spotting ... I'd felt a bump on my cervix while checking CP the month we conceived, and of course asked her about it. She told me I have a Bartholin's cyst, and she'd known about it from before, and that it is pretty common and normal. It might also be what is causing the spotting. I had a tiny bit pink discharge after the ultrasound which, of course, was vaginal. So we'll wait.

I did have a brief moment of panic right before the ultrasound that they were going to look and not see anything in my uterus, but calmed myself pretty quickly, reminding myself I haven't had a period in 2 months and I definitely FEEL pregnant, but I was very much relieved when she found the baby right off, too. lol

A quiz!!!

1. Will you be looking for a new job?
Maybe. Depends on some stuff.

2. Will you be looking for a new relationship?
No.

Well, an apartment at any rate. We're trying to sell the condo again.

4. Do you plan on having a child?
I'm sure hoping, since I'm 8 weeks' pregnant ...

5. New Years Resolution?
Didn't make any.

6. What will you not be doing in 08?
Traveling.

7. Any trips planned?
No.

8. Wedding plans?
None. I mean, I hope DH's bro and sis get married (duh, not to each other), and it would rox if CC and BA would, but all my sibs are married ... so ... yeah, not so much.

9. Major thing on your calendar?
Baby due August 15.

10. What can't you wait for?
See #9.

11. What would you like to see happen different?
I'd really like it if DH would get active in church again and/or start spending time with MY family ... but ... when pigs fly ...

12. What about yourself, will you be changing?
Trying to be more patient with DH. See #11. After baby is born, I'm hoping to get back on track with being healthy.

13. What happened in ‘07 that you don't think will ever happen again?
Um ... I had to have the sex talk with kiddo in 07. I'll never have to have *that* one with her again ... although we have talked about it and making good choices and stuff since then.

Hope to.

I quit drinking 10 or 11 years ago.

17. Will you better your relationships with your family?
I hope so.

18. Will you do charity work?
Possibly.

I'm trying -- not easy when people get in your space and annoy the heck out of a pregnant lady with horrormones.

20. Do you expect 08 to be a good year for you?
Yep!

21. How much did you change from this time last year til now?
I'm not as freaked out about every little thing DH does or does not do. He and I have a better relationship. I'm less pushy when it comes to certain things for him. I feel like I'm a better mom, too, since I'm less wrapped up in newlyweddedness and drama.

22. What will you do different in 08?
Try to be gently encouraging to DH about church and family instead of a bitter shrew.

23. Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
YEP. They rock.

24. Major lifestyle changes?
Hi, I'm pregnant. Having another baby will definitely impact my lifestyle. Already has ... (no nookie, can't eat certain things, don't want to eat most of the time ... no caffeine ... etc.)

25. Moving?
Hope to -- want to sell the condo soon and get closer to DH's work and the college he plans to attend next fall.

26. What will you make sure doesn’t happen in 08 that happened in 07?
No. More. Credit. Card. Debt.

27. What were your New Years Eve plans?
Hung out with the family, then came home and spent time with DH. We were asleep by 11:30.
